Legal
Privacy policy
This explains what we do with personal information. It is deliberately short, because a privacy policy nobody reads protects nobody.
01Who we are
The data controller
The Mac People, 294 Kensington High Street, London W14 8NZ. You can reach us on 020 7477 2151 or at info@themacpeople.com.
If you have a question about anything on this page, ask us. A person will answer.
02What we collect
Information we hold
- What you send us — your name, email address, telephone number and whatever you write in an enquiry form, email or letter
- Client records — for clients, the details needed to do the work and to invoice for it, including notes about your equipment and setup
- Access to your devices — where a job requires it, we may access your computers, accounts or systems to diagnose and fix the problem
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and does not track you across other websites. No third-party scripts run on these pages.
03How we use it
What we do with it
We use your information to answer your enquiry, carry out work you have asked for, invoice you, and keep records we are legally required to keep. That is all.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for marketing. We do not add you to a mailing list because you once asked us to fix a laptop.
Where our work gives us access to your files, we look only at what the job requires. We do not browse your material, and we do not retain copies beyond what the work needs.
04How long
Retention
Enquiries that do not become work are kept only as long as is useful to answer them, and then deleted.
Client and job records are kept for as long as you remain a client and afterwards for the period required by UK tax and accounting law, which is generally six years. Data recovered on your behalf is returned to you and then removed from our systems once you have confirmed you have it.
05Your rights
What you can ask for
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and object to particular uses of it.
Write to info@themacpeople.com and we will deal with it. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Suppliers and links
We use a small number of suppliers to run the business — for hosting, email and accounting — and they may process your information on our behalf under contract. We choose them with the same care we would want applied to our own data.
Where this site links to other websites, we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
