The Mac People by Habi — Apple Specialist

About

Independent, in Kensington, since 2004

The Mac People was established in 2004 and has provided technology support to London businesses and residential clients ever since — repairs, upgrades and solutions across Apple Mac and Windows PC systems. We are independently owned and answer to nobody but our clients.

A quiet cobbled mews of white stucco houses in Kensington, west London.

01Who we are

Twenty-two years in Kensington

When it comes to technology, we've got a good idea.

The practice was established in 2004 and has done the same work since: servicing Apple hardware and running the technology that clients depend on. Firms in this trade rarely last. Ours has, from the same street, which is the one credential in this business that cannot be bought or invented.

That longevity follows from how we work. We say when a repair is not worth doing. We say when a product a client has been sold is unnecessary. We explain faults in terms that do not require the client to nod along. It is a slower way to build a practice and a far more durable one — most of our work now comes from clients of many years' standing, and from the people they refer.

02How we work

One point of contact

For businesses we act as a complete virtual IT department: a single point of contact for anything technical. Most firms we take on are running separate suppliers for IT support, email, web and cloud services, and procurement, with nobody accountable for how it fits together.

Our purpose is to simplify and streamline the whole estate. One firm that knows the entire setup, one number, and no further routing between helpdesks.

For households the principle is identical at a domestic scale, and the stakes are higher than clients expect. A modern home holds a great deal of irreplaceable material — photographs, documents, records — frequently in one place, on one device, behind a backup nobody has verified since it was configured.

03Independence

Inside Apple's network, and independent

We are an Apple Specialist and a member of the Apple Consultants Network — Apple's programme for independent firms that advise and support people on Apple technology. It is not a badge you can buy; you are accepted onto it.

We are still independently owned, and that matters as much. It means we can repair machines Apple has classified as vintage or obsolete and no longer services. It means we can work at component level on a logic board rather than replacing the whole board because a policy says so. It means we can quote you a price rather than a rule.

The honest caveat, which we would rather you heard from us: work carried out by an independent repairer can affect an existing Apple warranty or AppleCare cover. If your machine is still covered we will tell you, and usually tell you to use that cover first. Losing a job is cheaper than costing a client a warranty.

We would rather tell you not to spend the money and be the people you call next time.
